-Music Videos on my Mind- Lower Dens’ “To Die in L.A.”

The title To Die in L.A. immediately brings to mind William Friedkin’s movie of an almost similar name (To Live and Die in L.A.), a 1985 cop thriller drenched in neon blasted Miami Vice aesthetics and antiquated snyth score. The movie was replete in style, carrying an MTV-type look that was most befitting the era.
Lower Dens are obviously mining similar territories with their song and music video, showcasing a showgirl straight from a Paul Verhoeven fantasy who embodies the rotting core of L.A. L.A. land glamour, the starlet decaying within from her absurd dislocation to reality and total immersion in fatalist fantasy, or something like that because in all honesty it doesn’t make much sense. The song is the real winner, though.
